Dusan Simic is a research gemologist with more than 25 years of experience in the gemology and jewelry trade.
After studying at the University of Belgrade within the Natural Science and Mathematics Department, Simic pursued his interest in gemology. After training in Italy and Switzerland, he became a high-end jeweler and diamond setter in Germany. In 1989, Simic went on to earn his FGG diploma from the renowned "Deutsche Gemmologische Gesselschaft" in Idar-Oberstain, Germany.
After numerous research trips to cutting centers and mines around the world, he entered the international gemology industry in 1990 with his own lab.
In 2002, Simic joined EGL USA Group in New York as a Senior Research Gemologist, responsible for diamond identification research. In 2004, he received the Scientific Gemologist Certificate (SGC) at the SSEF Laboratory in Switzerland.
From 2006-2008 he was General Manager of the GHI India Gem and Research Laboratory in Mumbai.
Simic's intense research in identification problems of HPHT treatments, synthetic diamonds, multi-step treatments of diamonds and radiation and annealing processes, as well as his technical know-how of diamond analytical instruments, are much appreciated in the gems and jewelry industry. He has contributed regularly to trade and gemological magazines (Rapaport, Idex, Canadian Jewellery, New York Diamonds, Jewelry News Asia, Gems and Gemology, DRM, Journal of Gemmology) and presented reports at numerous, prestigious research conferences (Material Research Conference, European Diamond Conferences, De Beers Conferences and International Gemological Conferences).
In 2009, Mr. Simic founded a new laboratory, Analytical Gemology and Jewelry (AG&J), to focus on research and development, as well as offer identification services of standard (irradiation, heating, HPHT, etc.) and new treatments of diamonds (combination of treatments etc.), gems and synthetic diamonds.
